Wendy is a popular cookery show presenter and highly respected campaigner for finest local produce, where to find it and what to do with it. She provides independent food related expertise at her Food Studio and can be found on the highways and byways checking out the best.
Wendy is Founder and Director of the independent award-winning Scottish Food Guide www.scottishfoodguide.com and Scottish Cheese Trail www.scottishcheesetrail.com. Self employed, no two days are the same but her commissions generally fall into four categories:
- Food Tourism (including her food guides, public speaking, food promotions, food photography & styling, quality assurance and workshops)
- Food Education (health promotion, school lunches and bespoke courses)
- Food Events (managing the Cookery Theatre at the Royal Highland Show, local Food Fairs, setting judging criteria etc)
- Food Hygiene (REHIS course presenter).
SFG's newly created Scottish Food Studio in Fife makes the perfect setting for meetings and courses.
With considerable experience in food education across the board, Wendy networks with chefs across UK and beyond. Nordic activities include Scottish Food presentations, educational visits, food learning journeys, student chef intern placements and www.skanskfoodguide.com.
Wendy is a Member of the Food and Drink Committee for the Royal Highland Show; the Cross Party Parliamentary Food Group; the Appeals Board for the “Healthyliving Award” and Member of Council for The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland. She is an active supporter of the Slow Food Movement, Leader Co-ordinator & Member of the Scottish Ark of Taste Commission.
A professional cook and trainer, her passion for food has immersed her in the world of local food production, especially but not exclusively, native breeds and cheeses. Wendy, an inaugural delegate at Slow Food’s 2004 Terra Madre in Turin, was invited to speak on Food Tourism at TM 2006 and met fellow presenter, Swedish farmer, Bosse Dahlgren. They married in 2008 and have been regular participants ever since. Bosse is Breeding Adviser on the Board of various Nordic genebanks.
Wendy has a particular passion for dairy produce and has studied traditional cheese making in the wilderness of Norwegian seters and Swedish fäbods. She collaborates to promote Scottish cheesemakers and attended Slow Cheese 2015 in Bra where she gained valuable insights and many contacts. She judged at the World Cheese Awards this year and brings these unique experiences to her Cheese Champion Training.
2004 Wendy won the Tourism Excellence Award in the prestigious Catering in Scotland Excellence Awards.
2011, Finalist for the Scottish Countryside Alliance Rural Hero Award, recognising outstanding personal contributions to country life and communities for her dedicated support of local produce and her ongoing achievements.
2016, Winner of Food & Drink Category, Scottish Rural Network Photo Competition.
2017, Finalist in Fife Business Awards, Excellence in Food & Drink Category
She is a regular contributor on food matters and has published two books.
