Christmas for vegetarians
BBC Radio Scotland's Kitchen Cafe is always entertaining and informative. This week we discussed edible Christmas presents, veggie recipe ideas and the Christmas cheeseboard. Such fun topics can hardly be described as work!Handmade presents are always appreciated: from simple vanilla and cinnamon sugars appealingly be-ribboned, to biscuits, truffles, chutneys and even elaborate gingerbread houses. And if your culinary skills or frankly time are pressed just now then the SFG farm shops will gladly pull together hampers of their home made produce for great gifts. As for the vegetarians, I always feel at this dark time of year colour is as important as taste which is why the nut roast fails to impress me.
There are tasty bright gourds and pumpkins in season to stuff with savoury fillings, vibrant kale and jewelled seasonal berries. How about beetroot souffles or Dunsyre tarts with caramelised red onions? Here is my watercress and cranberry roulade from my cook book - available for that Christmas or New Year gift through this website of course!
